How to choose a perfume bottle: size, neck and sprayer

Start with the size

Most fragrance ranges are built around 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml bottles, with 2–10 ml vials for samples and travel sizes. Decide the full size range first, because brands usually want one bottle shape that works across every size.

Remember that brimful capacity is larger than the nominal fill. Leave headspace for the sprayer dip tube and for thermal expansion during shipping.

Pick the neck: crimp or screw

Crimp necks such as FEA 15 are closed by crimping a metal or plastic ferrule onto the bottle. They look clean, resist tampering and are the standard for most fine fragrance, but the bottle is not easily refillable.

Screw necks such as 18/415 accept screw-on sprayers. They are easier to fill by hand and allow refills, which suits niche brands and small batches.

Match the sprayer

Sprayer output is measured per stroke. Fine fragrance typically uses a fine, even mist with a low output, while body mists use a larger dose. Ask for the output of each sprayer and test it with your juice.

Choose the collar finish and overcap at the same time as the bottle, so the metal color, cap material and decoration all match.

Before you order

Order samples, fill them with your formula and check the fit, leakage and spray pattern. Confirm the MOQ, decoration method and lead time in the quote, and agree the packing method for glass in transit.
